jewelry post

The world’s most elegant woman, Coco Chanel, was said to have advised the following when dressing with accessories:

“Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”

If jewelry is, indeed, a deep-seated need for self-expression, one might surmise from my closet display of costume jewelry that I am totally fulfilled when it comes to expressing myself through accessories.  Fashion is fickle, so I invest in some basic pieces of wardrobe that I know will be kind of classic and timeless.  THEN I add whatever trend has been declared as the latest and greatest in color and style.  No need to put any of this in a safe or lock box-none of it is meant to be an heirloom.  To be honest, I do have some pearls, some gold necklaces and a couple of fabulous diamond earrings-which are, of course, timeless, but the costume jewelry is kind of fun and almost always reflects a sense of being current-even trendy.

I love the new idea of layering and/or stacking!  If one necklace is good-3 is even better.  That one little bangle looks lonely-keep adding until the noise is intrusive when you move your arm!  When I am all stacked and layered, I couldn’t sneak up on anyone-I kind of enjoy the whole jingle/jangle of it all.  Look in the mirror and take one thing off? Never…..

Please note the Pinterest worthy necklace hangers: I took push pins and glued buttons and ribbons on them. Pretty cute, huh?

Not to get all braggy, but here is another Pinterest worthy idea in my closet: A mesh silverware tray from the Container Store that holds my cuff bracelets and pins!
