Smoothies are a healthy fast food. Here are a few of our favorite red, white and green recipes along with “smoothie tips” to help make your smoothie experience a great success! Cheers! Here’s to good health!!!
Raspberry Lemon Drop Smoothie RED
- 1 cup frozen raspberries
- 12 raw cashews
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice
- 6 ounces fat-free plain Greek yogurt*
- 3/4 cup ice chips or cubes
- Twist of lemon peel (optional)
Blend all of these ingredients, then sprinkle a few chopped cashews on top before serving. Delicious and beautiful!
Stonefruit Smoothie WHITE
- 2 peaches, pit removed and chopped
- 1 apricot, pit removed and chopped
- 1 cup fresh or frozen strawberries
- 6 ounces fat-free plain Greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons ground flaxseeds
- 1 cup small ice cubes or chips
If you don’t have fresh apricots, add more peaches.
Sweet Spinach Smoothie GREEN
- 2 cups spinach leaves, packed
- 1 ripe pear, peeled, cored and chopped
- 15 green or red grapes
- 6 ounces fat-free plain Greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons chopped avocado
- 1-2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
Since you are going to be cutting an avocado and only using 2 tablespoons, you can actually freeze the ingredients for this smoothie – one for later! This green smoothie is truly sweet. The avocado makes it very smooth with a rich flavor. I love Sprout’s baby spinach – it always seems to be fresh and lasts a long time Another “green smoothie” favorite is Cool Cucumber Lime.
Smoothie TIPS
- Using frozen fruit will add refreshing icy texture to any smoothie drink.
- Greek yogurt provides almost double the protein of regular yogurt. That and its super-creamy texture make it an ideal addition to a healthy smoothie. If you can’t find it, feel free to substitute fat-free milk, almond milk or soy milk.
- Use ground flaxseed rather than whole to release the nutrients.
- Green smoothies are like rocket fuel to your metabolism!
- Smoothies with fruit are great, but here’s what we have found. We can eat fruit and love it, but to eat a lot of fresh vegetables can be difficult to do. Smoothies with spinach and other vegetables are super-delicious when you have a blender like Vitamix >>> yes, we all choked when we saw the price tag >>> then we swallowed, started breathing again and jumped in! We all love our Vitamix’s…so we highly recommend it if you want to drink whole food smoothies that are – well, smooth!
