How about you? What does summer mean to you?
Would love to see some photos….
Minnesotans respond to a winter weather forecast of -30 with swagger. We see ourselves as resilient or enduring the brutal cold, and proclaim with something akin to pride & “Bring it.”
But, oh, how we love summer. Summer is the reward for making the best of snow and ice with ice carvings and snow forts-skyways and 60″ annual snowfall.
There are 15 weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and you can usually count on one or two of those weekends getting “rained out.” So we book cabins on one our 10,000 lakes by first of March, plan summer BBQ’s as the ice is melting and plan reunions, vacations and gatherings well in advance.
And sweet it is as all of Minnesota throws off any pretense that we love winter. We rush outside to embrace the sun-soaking up the vitamin D that we surely lack from our long, cold winters-and celebrate a landscape that is lush, green and full of the sounds of summer. Summertime, and the livin’ is easy…..just take a look:
