Shadowbox

Throwback Thursday:  this is a little shadow box containing mementos of my mother, who is 86.  This is one of my favorite pictures of her-she looks young and alive to the possibilities of her life, which turned out to be not all that easy.  Tucked behind the picture frame is a lace hanky she carried-she has a collection of them.  She brought me up as a proper southern girl, so, I, too, carried a hanky to church every Sunday.  A few pennies would be tied in a knot at the end, so I wouldn’t lose them before the collection plate was passed.  There are some earrings tucked into the corner that she bought at Woolworth’s for a dime-which she laughingly says was foolish and impulsive-but she always felt so pretty when wearing some nice earrings.
