I recently heard someone say, “I learn more at a funeral, than I do at a party.” I had to think about this. To me what this person was saying was that at a funeral, we start to think about life, about how trivial some things are and what is truly important. To me it is about “living outside the dot” and understanding that my life has eternal value. “Living outside the dot” means I will spend more time thinking with an eternal perspective rather than thinking about the things that won’t last. Life is precious – every day is a gift – and life will have a higher purpose when I live each day with hope in the Lord and renewed strength that God has a plan for my life.
Lord, teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
