3 isissy reunion 2009

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:12)

The number 3 is symbolic in many cultures.  for the Chinese it is a lucky number, and is revered as evidenced in this Chinese proverb:  “The wisdom of three ordinary people exceeds that of the wisest individual.”  I smiled at the proverb’s insight into callmesister.com-I have often said that we are greater than the sum of our parts.  Alone, we are pretty good-together we are unstoppable.  : )  Our family and friends know that when The Smith Girls (recently dubbed isissies), are on it-incredible things happen.

Taosim states that the number 3 represents Heaven, Earth and Human being, yet another way to look at the number 3 symbolically.

Throughout the Bible, the number 3 is used symbolically.  Most commonly known for God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit,  this Irish prayer speaks beautifully to the blessings of the power of the  number 3:  I bind unto myself today, the grace of Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Spirit.   There were 3 gifts of the Magi, 3 crosses at Calvary, 3 days in the tomb, 3 Marys and the 3 theological virtues:  “these three abide, Faith, Hope and but the greatest of these is Love.  It is the body, soul and spirit.”  Marriage ceremonies often use the 3 braided cord to illustrate the couples union with God-symbolically dedicating their marriage with God as equal partner.

I find so much peace and security knowing that my sissies and I share an undying love for each other-and that our triple-braided cord can be an influence for good if we embrace the virtues of faith, hope and love.

Whatever your interpretation of the number 3, hopefully today’s post will help you reflect on who/what represents you and the 3 strand cord.  With whom/what do you want to be so tightly braided?  I’m am blessed that for me, it is my sissies, because I know we provide support and strength to each other that is beyond any one of us.
